Attorney Debra L. Koven’s estate planning practice focuses on helping families, with minor children, in the South Bay community and surrounding areas, to keep their loved ones out of court and out of conflict. Debra incorporates legacy planning for both monetary and intangible assets, as well as full Kids Protection Planning.

Debra is the proud mom of one amazing daughter that arrived later in her life.  As both a lawyer and a parent, her primary goals are to help educate, inform and guide the families in the community when it comes to planning and protecting the most precious possessions – their children, in the event of death or incapacity. She also insures that the family legacy carries on in the manner of their choosing, which means much more than simply passing along physical assets.

  

Debra graduated from University of California at Los Angeles and went on to law school at Western State University of Law.

 

After a brief stint with a medical/legal malpractice defense firm, Debra opened her own litigation practice in 1992.  From 1992-2010, Debra litigated hundreds of cases for injured people, obtaining jury verdicts, arbitration awards and settlements for a vast variety of individuals.  She was honored in the Women’s Who’s Who and has belonged to numerous legal associations, including the California State Bar, Los Angeles County Bar Association, and Consumer Attorneys of Los Angeles.

Presently, Debra is a member of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys, and also, a Personal Family Lawyer® licensed by the Family Wealth Planning Institute.

Debra’s most important role and membership is in the club of working moms who are balancing caring for a family, a household and work, while not losing sight of her passions and personal goals.  Debra is an avid sports fan who loves to watch hockey, baseball and college football (GO BRUINS!). She admittedly is “addicted” to reality tv and enjoys the beautiful beaches of Southern California.  In addition to her daughter Nyssa, Debra lives with her husband and 2 cats (Sammy and Annabelle) in Redondo Beach, California.
